Angelus Silesius was the monastic name of the Polish philosopher and mystic Johannes Scheffler (1624 – 1677 CE). He was born into a noble Lutheran family, later converted to Catholicism, was ordained a priest, and retired to monastic life in Breslau, donating his family fortune to charity. He published two books of poetry and also served briefly as physician to the Emperor Ferdinand III.
God is my final end;
Does he from me evolve,
Then he grows out of me,
While I in Him dissolve.
Translation Paul Carus
