Hazrat Khwaja Usman Harooni: The Signs of the Enlightened

Once Hazrat Khwaja Usman of Haroon* was questioned as to the signs of the Enlightened.  His Holiness replied:

The sign of the Enlightened is renunciation.  The one who takes to renunciation knows well that he is amongst the Enlightened and he has come to recognise God. The one who does not take to renunciation has not the slightest smell of gnosis. Know thou well that the words, “There is no God but God,” and their negative and positive aspects, are the gnosis of God.

Wealth and position are the two big idols.  The have led and are leading astray many a person.  Many a people worship the gods of position and wealth.  So, the one who has turned out [i.e. removed] the love of wealth and position has indeed performed the Negative, and the one who has attained the gnosis of God has performed the Positive aspect.

This can be attained only by saying and practicing the words, “There is no God but God.”
