Swami Rama Tirtha (1873 – 1906 CE) was a Vedantist and disciple of Swami Vivekananda. Like his guru, he spent some time travelling and lecturing in the United States.
During one of this lectures, Swami Rama Tirtha happened to refer to God as ‘He,’ and then as ‘She,’ and then later as ‘it.’
At the end of the lecture, a puzzled member of the public asked, ‘Swami-ji, could you please tell us, is your God a Mister, a Missus, or a Miss?”
Swami Rama smiled and said, “None of these – my God is a mystery!”
