It happened once long ago in India that there were two kings, one who was known for his goodness and one who was known for his badness. The first king ruled well, and those who lived in his kingdom were happy and prosperous, whereas the other king was cruel and unkind, and all the people in his land were poor and miserable.
In those days, Lord Krishna was walking on earth, and once a devotee came to him, wanting to learn about good and evil. “Come with me,” Lord Krishna said, “and I will show you where good and evil live.”
They went together to the evil king, and Lord Krishna asked him to find a good person in his land. That king searched diligently everywhere in his kingdom, and at last returned, saying, “Lord Krishna, I have found no good people. In my country all are bad.”
Then Lord Krishna went with the devotee to the good king, and asked him to find an evil person in his kingdom. That king went all over his country, looking everywhere, and then returned to Lord Krishna, saying, “Lord, though I have searched I have found no evil people in my kingdom. All in my land are good.”
Then the devotee said to Lord Krishna, “Lord, I understand. I thank you for showing me where good and evil live.”
