Tales : Nasruddin finds some strength

It happened once upon a time that Mullah Nasruddin and a friend bought the ingredients to make a meal of meat and vegetables and rice. Full of enthusiasm they brought everything home and rolled up their sleeves to prepare.

“Now,” said the friend, “Nasruddin, you make the rice and I will start on the vegetables.”

“But I don’t know how to make rice,” said the Mullah. “The proportions confuse me.”

“Oh? Well, then you slice the vegetables, and I’ll cook the rice.”

“I also don’t know how to cut vegetables,” the Mullah replied.

“Then go and prepare the meat on the stove,” the friend said. “I will look after the rice and vegetables.”

“Touching raw meat makes me nauseous,” said Nasruddin.

“Can you light the fire?” the friend asked.

“Fire is so frightening,” the Mullah said. “And I burn very easily.”

Tired of Nasruddin’s excuses, the friend prepared the meal by himself. When it was done, he said sarcastically,”And I suppose that you are too tired to eat anything, Mullah.”

“Indeed I am weary,” Nasruddin answered, “but considering all the effort you have made, it is a duty to eat something. I will do my best…”
