Glimpses: The Voice of Hazrat Inayat

This time, our ‘glimpse’ into the life and times of Hazrat Inayat Khan comes as a brief audio-recording of the Master’s voice. During his visit to New York in early 1926, he visited Sanders Recording Studio, and there recorded this short address. The sound quality is of course not good by today’s standards and we can perceive that he is speaking loudly, as the instruments were not sensitive then, but according to his son Hidayat the rhythm of his speech here is very characteristic of the way he spoke in classes and lectures.

This is as an unexpected and wonderful gift from the past, but with each and every word needed for our present world. The tone and the rithm of the voice of the Murshid have something very special; kind of a soothing and calming vibration. How wonderful to be able to hear him! I imagine there is a very interesting story behind the finding of this marvelous recording. Thank you most dear Nawab!
