Kabir : Why wander all over?

For more about the 15th c. CE mystic and poet Kabir, see this earlier post.

Your Raam is in your heart
Why wander all over?

Such rare gems hidden in the body
Who but a jeweller can know their worth?

Such pure ghee hidden in the milk
Will butter emerge without churning?

Such sweet nectar hidden in sugarcane
Can juice be got without grinding?

Such bright flames hidden in firewood
Will fire ignite without friction?

Such big bolts studded on the heart
Who but the guru can open these locks?

Kabir says, listen seekers
You can’t find Raam without stillness

Your Raam is in your heart
Why wander all over?

Translation Vipul Rikhi
