In this brief, beautifully crafted poem the Sephardic poet Ibn Gabirol names three things that keep the thought of God before his mind. The short list takes him from the vast sky overhead to the intimacy of his own heart. For more about the poet, see this earlier post.
Three things meet in my eyes
and keep the thought of you always before me:
the skies, which make me think of your Name,
as they bear faithful witness for me;
the place where I stand, which brings my mind
back to the land you extend beneath me;
and bless, my soul, my Lord at all times
for heart’s reflection within me.
