Mohammed Shah Taunsvi (1770-1850 CE) was a Sufi in Baluchistan, in what is now modern day Pakistan, and was known as Pir Pathan. One of his most devoted students was Shamsuddin Sialvi, who also became a revered Murshid.
It is related that one day Khwajah Taunsvi was sitting surrounded by visitors, when a bright faced gentleman approached him and had conversation with the Murshid. After a time, this man left.
After the visitor had gone, Khwajah Taunsvi said, “Whoever wishes to meet Hazrat Khazir* can meet him, for this person who just left is him.”
Then all the visitors ran after the man, but Khwajah Sialvi kept sitting where he was.
Khwajahh Taunsvi said, “Are you not eager to see Hazrat Khazir?”
Khwajah Sialvi said, “I would prefer to see the one whom Hazrat Khazir came to meet.”
*Khazir, also romanised as Khidr, Khezer and in various other forms, is the ‘Green Prophet’ honoured in Islam as the guide of other prophets. Said to be ever-living, he is supposedly present at every true initiation.
