Tales : The proper place

It is told that Khwajah Mohammed Taunsvi made many journeys accompanied by his mureed Shamsuddin Sialvi. Once, as they travelled, with the Murshid riding on a horse and the mureed going in front with bare feet, the Murshid saw that the thorns and stones of the path had hurt Shamsuddin’s feet very much.

Immediately Khwajah Saheb ordered that they stop, and he gave his shoes to the student.

Shamsuddion was deeply honoured that his Murshid would give him his shoes, but instead of putting them on his feet, he bound them on his head and wore them there as a sign of respect. When the Murshid asked him why he did not put them on his feet, Shamsuddin said, “This is the proper place.”
