This month a hundred years have passed since Pir-o-Murshid Inayat Khan gave a Dutch Summer School in the seaside village of Katwijk. During that time, he gave two series of lectures, one on the Inner Life, and the other on the Problem of the Day. He also had a deep mystical experience in the dunes to the south of the village, at a place he named ‘Murad Hassil,’ the fulfilment of wishes. That place is the focus of the Universel Murad Hassil, which has seen so much Sufi activity through the decades.
To commemorate the centenary, the Board of the Murad Hassil Stichting has organised a special event next Sunday, the 25th of September, and plans to live-stream it so that friends around the world can watch. The Foundation’s warm invitation, with information about how to receive the link for the event is given below.
Invitation to follow the ‘livestream’ of a special celebration in Katwijk on Sunday September 25th: 100 years “Murad Hassil”
Katwijk, September 15, 2022
Dear Sufi friends,
We would like to invite you to a special celebration in the Universel on Sunday 25 September. The reason is that this month it is 100 years ago that Hazrat Inayat Khan, bringer of the Sufi message of Love, Harmony and Beauty had a very special experience here in the dunes of Katwijk. A second reason is the anniversary of the Universel itself. It was completed in 1970, so 2020 was meant to be the year to celebrate the 50th anniversary. Due to corona that was cancelled, so we include that milestone now too. It will be a program with a lot of music (including Thijs van Leer, founder and band leader of the once world famous rock group FOCUS), short speeches by the leaders of the five international universal Sufi organizations and a short Informal Service.
Exactly hundred years ago there was a Summer School in Katwijk led by Pir-O-Murshid Hazrat Inayat Khan, during which period he had his most important life changing experience in ‘Murad Hassil’. During that Summer School in Katwijk he spoke every day about the same two topics: “The Inner Life” and “The Problem of the Day”. For our celebration of September 25th, we have chosen this last theme. What Inayat Khan told his students in September 1922 is still surprisingly topical today, 100 years later. The Pirs of the 5 Sufi Tariqas have been asked to give their view on this topic today.
The program starts at 2 PM and ends at 4 PM (Mid European time). There will be a ‘live’ broadcast via YouTube so that everyone around the world will be able to follow the celebration. We very much hope you will be able to be part of this important celebration by joining in from a distance online. Click on the line below and we will send you the link to the TouTube broadcast a few days in advance.
I am looking forward to your response.
Warm regards,
Elmer Koole
Chairman Universel ‘Murad Hassil’ Foundation
Program celebration 100 years “Murad Hassil” on Sunday September 25, 2022
This month marks 100 years since Hazrat Inayat Khan, bringer of the Sufi message of Love, Harmony and Beauty had a life changing experience in this special place: an experience like may be compared of that of Moses at the Burning Bush. He said nothing about it, but everything showed what an overwhelming experience this had been for him. He called the place “Murad Hassil” (= wish fulfilled) and indicated that this special place in the dunes would be a very good place to build a ‘Universel’: a space to respect the inspiration of all world religions and to experience and propagate his message of Love, Harmony and Beauty.
