Abu Yazid Bistami was a deeply mystical Persian Sufi of the 9th c. CE. For a little more about him, see this post.
One day a Divinely intoxicated person was crying, “God! Look toward me!”
Bayazıd interrupted, saying, “And what are thy qualifications, that He should look toward thee?”
The intoxicated one replied, “When He shall look at me, all qualifications shall be born in me.”
Bayazid found this to be a worthy answer.
