Abul Hassan : Don’t be meek in this love

This poem – or, more correctly, poetic utterance – is from the 10th c. Sufi Shaikh Abul Hassan Kharaqani. For more about this Sufi master, see this earlier post.

Don’t be meek in this love

Be kind to people,
receive the wisdom of the Prophet,

but don’t be meek in this love
for God is bold
                                                  and likes those
who are bold in adoration…

This path is for the bold
the intoxicated
                                                 the love crazed

With God
                                               being love-crazed
                                                     intoxicated
and bold
works
