Bedil : How long will you hide?

Mirza Abdul-Qadir Azimabadi (1642-1720 CE) wrote under the pen-name ‘Bedil’ which means the one without a heart, or the one who has surrendered his heart. His family moved to Delhi from Uzbekistan, and he was a mystic and a poet of the highest rank, compared with Hafez and with Amir Khusrow, but with his own unique style. He composed over a hundred thousand lines of poetry in Persian, mostly ghazals and rubais, many of which are sung by musicians to this day.

How long will you hide behind mists of delusion?
How long can you mask That
which reveals Itself through you?

O shadow
it is in closing your eyes to yourself
that you become revealed to yourself
as the naked sun
