Dhul Nun : Accept two things

The following anecdote resonates with this recently posted audio tale. For more about Dhul Nun, see this previous post.

A man who wished to be accepted as a disciple said to Dhul Nun, “I want to enrol in the Path of Truth beyond anything else in the world.”

This is what Dhul Nun told him: “You can accompany our caravan only if you first accept two things. One is that you will be compelled to do things that you do not want to do. The other is that you will not be allowed to do things which you want to do. ‘Wanting’ is what stands between human beings and the Path of Truth.”
