Eihei Dogen, also known as Dogen Zenji (1200 – 1253 CE) was a Japanese Buddhist monk, poet, philosopher and founder of the Soto school of Zen. He first studied with the Tendai school, which emphasised the use of koans to startle the seeker into enlightenment, but he was dissatisfied with this method, and went to China, where he found his path of silent meditation.

“No mind, no buddha” — difficult to explain, but easy to practice.
