Beloved brother Amin, thank you for the observation. Hazrat Inayat is not saying that the Message should only be directed at certain people, or at people of a certain level. He is only saying that we lose a great deal if the level of the ‘common person’ becomes our standard. The Sufi speaks to each in his own language, but some fine feelings or thoughts are not interesting to some people, and in trying to bring the expression down to their level, the thoughts and feelings lose a great deal. You are right to mention the democracy of the heart and the aristocracy of the soul: everyone has a spark of the Divine Light within them, but not everyone is spiritually evolved. There is a tremendous beauty in the point of view of the evolved soul, but the unevolved cannot appreciate it. Therefore the wise guard their words carefully, and when necessary, prefer to teach by example.
