From a letter of Khwaja Garib Nawaz to his spiritual successor, Hazrat Qutbuddin Baktiyar Kaki:

The chosen and selected of the united.
Delving deep in the Divine secret.
Lover of God Almighty.
My brother Khwaja Qutbuddin Dehlavi,
May, living int he Divine Protection,
You be happy and successful.

One day this humble being was present in the blessed company of my spiritual guide and teacher, His Holiness Hazrat Khwaja Usman Harooni, when a certain person came and said:
“Sir! I acquired different types of knowledge, tried my utmost to acquire piety, but unfortunately, Sir, I failed miserably to attain my object.”
His Holiness replied:
“You should act upon one thing, and so pursuing that, I am sure you will become a learned and a pious man both. The Holy Prophet Mohammed has said ‘to renounce the world is the root of all prayers and the love of the world is the source of all mistakes of omission and commission.’ […]
You must firmly believe it, that renunciation is not to be attained unless and until love in its entirety is acquired.  And know it, that love emanates only when God guides.  Without the guidance of God, the object indeed is not obtained.
Whomsoever God guides, he alone takes to the right path.”
