Abdullah Ansari : The heart of your friend

Khwaja Abdullah Ansari (1006–1088 CE) was born in what is now the Herat province of Afghanistan, and came to be known as the Pir-i-Herat or Sage of Herat. Little is recorded about his personal life, but he was a student of the seminal master Abul Hassan Kharaqani, and himself became a widely respected and influential Sufi.

O God,
In this world I sinned,
which saddened your friend,
                         Muhammad,
          and delighted your enemy,
                         Satan.

If you punish me in the next world,
it would yet again sadden your friend
                         Muhammad,
and again delight your enemy
                         Satan.

Do not sadden the heart of your friend
twice.

Forgive.
