Abdullah Ibn Umar was one of the companions of the Prophet Mohammed, and the son of the second Caliph, Umar. Although a young boy at the time, he retained vivid memories of his father’s conversion to Islam. Here is one of his recollections of the Prophet.
Abdullah Ibn Umar said that God’s Messenger took him by the shoulders and said, “Be in the world as though you were a stranger or a passing traveller.”
And Ibn Umar, who told this, used to say, “If you reach the evening, do not expect to see the morning, and if you reach the morning, do not expect to see the evening. Take something, when in health, to serve you in time of sickness, and something in your life to serve you in your death.”
