Once Jesus was asked a question by someone who wished to advance on the path : “What is the most difficult barrier of all?”
Jesus replied, “Clearly, it is God’s rage, for even the depths of hell tremble in fear before it.”
His questioner then asked, “And what can grant security from God’s rage?”
Jesus answered, “Quit your own rage immediately.”
Thank you, Pir Nawab!
What a succinct lesson.
Rumi tells this story of Jesus’ answer also, in the Mathnawi (Book IV, starting at line113)
Thank you, dear brother. Yes, Mevlana Rumi told and re-told many of the stories we pass from hand to hand. This story also reminds us of the tale that Pir-o-Murshid Inayat told, of the assassin who was bent on killing a certain king, but found he was unable. Throwing away his dagger, he asked the king why he was unable to kill him, and the king replied that it was because he had disarmed himself.
Thank you Nawab, this is amazing synchronicity again, as i am currently working with Jung’s Answer to Job, which looks at God’s rage and seeming injustice
