Tales : Places for two

It happened once upon a time in a village in India that a man went out from his home to do some errands, and saw a blind man begging by the side of the road. Going to him, he told the man his name and said, “I invite you to my home for a meal.” But then he left the blind man, and went on about his business

When he returned home, he told his wife, “I have invited a blind man for a meal. I saw him begging by the side of the road. Please make a place for him.”

His wife nodded. “Very well, husband,” she said, “I will prepare two extra places.”

“Two?” the man said in surprise. “Why two?”

“If he is blind,” the wife explained, “someone will bring him, won’t they?”
